SUPERMARKET PHARMACIST CAREER INFORMATION AND GROCERY STORE PHARMACIST JOB SEARCHRx Recruiters are now recruiting supermarket pharmacists for several major nationwide and regional grocery stores! Supermarket pharmacies are the fastest growing outlet for retail prescription drugs in the United States. Supermarket pharmacy accounts for nearly 18% of unit sales and 15% of dollars sales for all prescription pharmaceuticals. Supermarket prescription sales are growing at a rate of nearly 20% per year, compared with a 10% per year clip for other pharmacy outlets. Not just for prescriptions, many supermarkets are setting the tone for modern pharmacy by offering in-store clinics near the pharmacy, staffed by doctors and nurse practitioners. Supermarket pharmacies often offer comprehensive disease management programs, sales and service of durable medical equipment and diabetes supplies, and respiratory and physical therapy products and services. As supermarkets already have a "built-in" customer stream, they are often more convenient to patients than stand-alone drugstores. Patients of supermarket pharmacy tend to be more adherent to their medication regimes, as they often see their pharmacist every week when getting groceries, not just when the are sick. Supermarket pharmacists filled over 357 million prescriptions in 1999, that has increased to over 400 million today. Supermarket pharmacy and grocery store pharmacy jobs are in high demand by pharmacists. The work stress is often less than at the high volume chain drug stores, with less pressure from management to meet prescription quotas. Supermarkets tend to let the business people focus on the grocery side of the business, and the pharmacy people focus on the pharmacy. This tend to translate into a more pharmacy friendly atmosphere, and a greater concentration on patient care. As a rule, it is more difficult for pharmacists to procure a grocery store position than a position with a retail chain due to the fact that most pharmacists who work in a supermarket pharmacy tend to stay with a supermarket pharmacy. Grocery store pharmacy jobs do not have the same rapid rates of pharmacist turnover that are epidemic in the retail chain pharmacy world.
